The leaves will soon be turning, and the nights start drawing in. We look forward to all those winter nights, Halloween normally involves a fancy dress rave, and bonfire night, and before you know it you’re counting down the days for that special chilly day, out come your best raving shoes as you get ready to make that pilgrimage to Brixton. Yes that’s right, December is the month that all our party Christmases come true. Soulwax are coming to town.
The special Christmas party see’s the Dewaele brothers present both their musical monikers on one stage, including a full live show from Soulwax. The high-energy stage show features the best selection of their music and remixes recreated in a glitch electro –rock fest. And if there’s one bonus to presenting this at Brixton academy, is the mammoth sound system, trust us, after last year I was partially deaf for about 2 days, although I admit I did firmly plant myself directly in front of a huge stack of speakers. Ear damage aside, Soulwax live really are an aural treat.
Not only will we be treated to a full live show from Soulwax, the Belgian Duo will also be bringing out their 2manyDJ’s personas for a set, with a full accompanying visual treats. Last year the simple trick of cutting the record artwork from every track they played onto the academies massive screen and animating them served to not only provide a visual treat, but also reminded you just how skilled the duo are. They may have only played 8 bars of that 90’s classic, but any geek in there definitely new it. A 2manyDJ’s set takes record trainspotting to a whole new level, and you can expect everything from techno to electronica, to rave classics and pop mash ups all served up with that filthy glitch undercurrent that the pair have championed for many years.
Having created pioneering mixes that really tore apart all the rules of genres and sampling on a DJ mix, such as the now infamous ‘As heard on radio Soulwax part 2’ (and spawning several dolly Parton sampling copycats), an opportunity to see this created live is not to be missed. And as its Christmas, you can expect it to be bigger, better, and that extra but special. A very merry Christmas indeed.
