The last (and one of the best) festivals of the season kicks off this evening on the Isle of Wight. Rob Da Banks Bestival has gone from a humble gathering to one of the leading independent festivals in the UK, all in the short space of 5 years. It has been voted Best Medium-Sized Festival at the UK Festival Awards no fewer than four times, and unlike many other festivals that sell-out as soon as they get to a certain size, Sunday Best founder Rob Da Bank is committed to keeping that free-loving independent spirit, going as far as to co-found the Association of Independent Festivals in 2008. He’s in good company, with the organisers of, Cornbury Festival, Creamfields, Evolution Festival, Field Day/Underage, Glade, Loud Sound, Secret Garden Party, Shambala Festival, Summer Sundae Weekender and WOMAD all on board.
Bestival’s party-hard with a hippie edge spirit see’s 40,000 revellers don their lovingly made fancy dress and dance under the September sunshine to some of the finest artists and DJ’s the world has to offer. This weekend see’s everyone from Mercury Music Prize winners, The XX, through to headliners The Prodigy, ensuring that musically Bestival is a plethora of talent. There plenty of less-well known acts to bumble upon on the smaller stages, and pure filth and visual delights on offer at the Afterburner. (As seen at Glasto).
